Origami Cradle

A sustainable cradle I designed for my daughter. It's lightweight cardboard that assembles easily, with rows of triangular pyramids along each side that balance beauty and strength — reimagining the cradle, a product with a famously short life, as something both recyclable and beautiful.

A lightweight cardboard cradle that assembles by simply slotting parts together — no glue, no staples, just interlocking pieces. A run of triangular cones along each side gives it the strength to resist lateral force. It is fully recyclable, and every part is easy to replace.

Cradles have a very short useful life and often become bulky waste once a baby grows out of them — a real burden in urban homes where space is tight. That is why parents hesitate to buy one and often rent instead. This project set out to give those parents an accessible, reassuring cradle — and their babies a sound sleep — with a modern design.

Features: assembles by slotting together, so it is easy even if you are no good at DIY; every part is replaceable and hygienic; light enough to carry around the house; you can write your child’s growth right onto it; it breaks down to be recycled as resources rather than bulky trash; and the design makes the structure itself the point.
